About LizardEye Guitars

Hello and thanks for stopping by my website. LizardEye Guitars is a one man, low production shop located in Groton, MA. I have been playing guitar since the late 1970's and have been an avid furniture maker and woodworker for nearly as long.

As a do-it-yourselfer in need of a good fingerstyle guitar, I set out to build my first guitar under the guidance of Tom Knatt of The Luthier's Workshop back in 1997. After completing the first guitar, I brought it into work to show some of my co-workers. Fingerstyle guitarist and owner of Little River Sounds recording studio, Gus Deveau, played SN#1 and within a few minutes, stopped playing and said "I want Serial Number 2". Soon after that, while studying guitar with world renowned songwriter, singer & performer Chris Smither, I asked Chris if he'd like to try the guitar. Chris loved it and couldn't put it down. Over the course of the weekend, while taking breaks on the porch between classes, Chris kept asking if he could play my guitar. After about the 4th or 5th time I asked "Would you like me to build you one?" His response was a resounding "Hell yeah!" . . . . LizardEye Guitars, now a custom shop catering to the discriminating guitar player, was born.

Over the past 16 years, I have been building steadily, constantly improving my building techniques and focusing on tone, response, and playability. As a regularly performing fingerstyle guitarist myself, I spend a great deal of time with every guitar on the set up and playability. I work closely with each customer to individualize each guitar. The designs are clean and simple, letting the solid wood bindings and the beauty of the wood speak for itself.

I have also had the pleasure of working with internationally touring, singer/songwriter and guitar instructor, Marjorie Thompson on a custom LizardEye which was featured in an article about Marjorie in Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

I love building and playing guitars and I'd be delighted to work with you on building the guitar of your dreams.
